LPG Connection – Process And Procedure

Obtaining an LPG connection for the household is one of the most important tasks one needs to do when establishing one’s own house. Especially if you are moving to a new city, you definitely need to know the details of all the procedure to get the connection.

How to Apply for an LPG Connection?

To apply for the new LPG connection in India we need to follow some procedures.

  1. First step is to get the KYC (Know Your Customer) form from the dealer who is providing you the connection. This form can be even printed by downloading it online.
  2. You need an affidavit form printed on a Stamp paper of minimum value which is generally Rs. 10/- or 20/-. The affidavit should be Notarized by a Public Notary. You can now make the Gas connection affidavit online and then get it Notarized near your home.
  3. Fill the KYC form and affix a colour photo on it. Aadhar card number has to be provided on the KYC form.
  4. Attach documents in proof of your address. For Address proof you can submit these :
    • Rental agreement
    • Credit/Bank statement
    • Electricity bill
    • Self declaration attested by Gazetted officer
    • Flat allotment/Possession letter
  1. Attach documents in proof of your ID. These documents can be attached in proof of ID:
  1. Submit all these documents and the application form to the dealer along with the deposit amount. They would make a verification call in a week’s time.

Deposit amount is a sum prescribed by the Oil Company to get the new connection. This is inclusive of the price of gasket, one cylinder, regulator, a stove and other miscellaneous charges. Buying the stove from the agency is not compulsory and purely optional. You are free to buy an ISI marked stove from outside.

Along with the connection you will be given a connection certificate and booklet. If you want 2 cylinders, you have to pay more.

Where to Apply?

There are three Oil Companies in India that provide the LPG connection as mentioned below. You need to choose one of the companies and locate their office close to your house.

  • Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) or Indane as it is commonly called
  • Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited(BPCL) or Bharat gas as it is commonly called
  • Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited(HPCL) or HP gas as it is commonly called

Who can Apply for LPG Connection?

There are some restrictions on who can get the new connection. These are some of them:

  1. The applicant should have completed 18 years of age
  2. The applicant must not have an LPG connection in his name at the time of application
  3. The applicant’s household should not have an LPG connection at the time of applying.
  4. The applicant has to take the connection in his name and in an address where there is no existing connection
